Basketball League Draft App

ABOUT THIS PROJECt

I’m a passionate recreational basketball player, and have worked for many years to harness technology to provide a superior User Experience for the players in our league’s 3 divisions and 22 teams.

Some of the processes involved in running our league are still manual - including the annual Player Draft.  We maintain a player database and prior to the day of the draft, we output a printed document showing all players in the draft, with their stats and rating.  Captains use the printed sheets during the Draft and cross off players as they’re selected. In the later rounds it’s not easy to see which players are still available, because the sheets are a mess of black X’s all over the sheet.

This app was designed to allow the team captains to have players marked as their favourites going into the Draft, and to use the app to select their player for each round.  Results are updated in real-time, and all captains will have an accurate and clear view of which players are remaining. This app is currently in the prototype stage.

WHAT I DID ON THIS PROJECT

I conceived the idea for this app. I was the User Experience Designer and the Visual Designer. I am currently sourcing mobile development resources for the project.

WHAT I LEARNED ON THIS PROJECT

I originally designed of this several years ago as an iPad app, and when I re-imagined it as an iPhone app I was forced to further simplify the design - which got even closer to the essence of what the app needed to do.  Once again, constraints are the mother of good design, and the catalyst for paring away everything but the essence - resulting in a useful and delightful Player Draft experience..
