DEPARTMENT STORE BUYERS' APP
ABOUT THIS PROJECT
This was not a freelance project - it was part of my day job. It's included here to illustrate my capabilities.
The client was a $30 billion dollar North American Omni-Channel Department Store. The company I work for had developed a sophisticated Merchandise & Assortment Planning Application to help their Apparel Planners determine which quantities of each style & color to buy & ship to each of their thousands of locations. With our understanding of their planning and buying processes, we realized that a mobile tool would make them much more efficient when they were out meeting Apparel vendors to see their new lines. We designed and built a mobile web app Proof of Concept and ran a pilot project with their buyers.
WHAT I DID ON THIS PROJECT
I was the User Experience Designer on the project. Our company initially pitched the client on building a mobile web app (which was piloted with the Buying team at the client). Yet I felt passionately that in this case, a native mobile app would be a better approach. I designed and built hi-resolution clickable prototype of a native iOS app that the client could interact with on their phones. The client ultimately had us build a native application, agreeing that it better served the users’ needs.
WHAT I LEARNED ON THIS PROJECT
This project reminded me that all client projects are subject to the business realities the client is facing. Even though a project like this one that would save their team considerable time & effort, it is competing with other uses of the client’s working capital. Occasionally a useful project is put on hold pending completion of other important projects.
